We pick you up at your accommodation in Ljubljana and drive to Velika Planina, located in the middle of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. We take an hour-long hike to reach the top. You are greeted with a magnificent view.

The area of Velika planina is Slovenia’s largest highland pasture. It is often described as the most beautiful Slovenian plateau, offering breathtaking views of the Alps and the Ljubljana basin, accompanied by a well-preserved herdsmen’s heritage.

After we explore the mountain and try traditional Slovenian food, we walk back to our transport, waiting to take us to the next spot. We drive along the Savinja River in the Solčavska region to our destination Logarska Valley. As parts of the valley are still authentic and nature intact, it is no wonder the Upper Savinja Valley is considered one of the most beautiful Alpine valleys in Europe.

Quiet and off the tourist track, this is true unspoiled Slovenian nature. We drive to the end of the valley and hike to the famous Rinka waterfall. Maybe we will even surprise you with a romantic picnic next to the river.

On the way back to Ljubljana we admire amazing panoramas of the beautiful Alps and make short stops at local sights.

Activity

This tour is all about hiking, visiting memorable Alpine sights, and tasting amazing food. At the start of the day, we have to hike to the top of the mountain (1667 m).

Hiking up to the Velika Planina settlements is a moderately difficult hike. But don’t worry, we adjust the tempo so the trip is suitable for everybody. We continue with a wonderful and easy walk across Slovenia’s largest pasture plateau and admire the idyllic herdsmen cottages on the way. After lunch we descent for about an hour on the other side of the plateau, where a van is waiting for us.

In Logarska Valley we do a 15-minute hike along an easy marked path to reach the Rinka waterfall.

If the weather is nice, this trip will not leave you disappointed. Hiking in this area is a recommended activity for families and all other outdoor lovers.
